44% of Gen Z Is Sabotaging AI… And CEOs Are Coming for Their Jobs
A new survey of 2,400 workers by Writer and Workplace Intelligence reveals that 44% of Gen Z employees are actively sabotaging their company’s AI rollout — through data misuse, quality degradation, shadow AI, and outright tampering. It’s not just Gen Z either: 29% of workers across all generations are doing the same thing. On the other side, 76% of executives now see this resistance as a serious threat, 60% of companies are planning layoffs for employees who refuse to adopt AI, and 77% of leadership teams say workers who don’t achieve “AI proficiency” will be denied promotions. The uncomfortable reality: AI is already cutting an estimated 16,000 net jobs per month, Gen Z entry-level roles are getting hit hardest, and 95% of executives say they’re overhauling entire team structures around AI “super users.” Meanwhile, only 22% of companies are actually tracking AI productivity correctly — so they’re demanding adoption without even measuring whether it’s working. The gap between executive ambition and worker reality is widening fast, and this internal war is just getting started.
